This spring was a particularly soggy one for Northern-Virginia homeowners, with many experiencing flooded basements, water seeping through walls, and more problems related to the weather and the condition of their basement walls.
If your electrical panel is located in an area that has been flooded, you should not use an electric sump pump. Rather, obtain a pump driven with a 12-volt battery or gasoline engine pump exhausted and vented to the outside.
Shovel mud from the basement as soon as all water has drained or has been pumped out. Rinse concrete walls and masonry foundation walls with a high-pressure hose to remove silt and dirt stains. Use a sump pump to remove water from the power washer.
